Back to School!

Alec is "ruler of the school" (6th grader) and Austin is a brand new kindergartner. I remember dropping Alec off at his first day of school, and all the angst I felt. How could I just drop off this precious little boy in a random building with only a few unknown adults to watch over him? I know it was mandated by law, but it felt irresponsible. However, with a great deal of trepidation and tearful emotion, that's exactly what I did. I watched his precious little back blend in with an army of other parent's precious treasures, and ...drove to work.

What a difference six years makes! This year when I dropped Austin off at his classroom for the first time, it was all joy. I'm so happy he gets to experience all the thrills of kindergarten! Free play time (although I doubt he'll be playing in the kitchen, my favorite choice when I was 5), new friends, new books, and new games.

I blinked, and fall arrived. September flew by so quickly, I can't believe it's October and the season of pumpkins, chilly nights, and Halloween. All the organized parents know just what their children are going to be for Halloween, but it's much to soon for me. I couldn't possibly get that figured out until most of the costumes (at least the ones my kids want to wear) are sold out. It's just about that time that Aaron and I get out shopping. At least we'll have a smaller selection to wade through. Three cheers for busy, disorganized, hardworking parents everywhere!

Weekend Getaway

We had a great time at our cabin this weekend. It was "the nap shack" for real! We did nothing but read, sleep, watch movies and the kids played video games. I confess I even tried a little guitar hero... so fun! Alec invited his friend up for the weekend.

It actually snowed on Saturday - all day! It was so beautiful. And especially nice? It was non-threatening snow that didn't stick, just fell all day looking beautiful. The boys didn't want to fish in the snow, so they stayed inside for most of Saturday. Sunday morning the weather was beautiful. The snow melting, then falling, off of the trees made quite a ruckus. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.
Austin had a field trip at school on Friday before we left for the cabin. They went to Central Market - this is his turn on the tractor. He was just a little excited about it. He had a great time on this school excursion.

We finished out the weekend at Franki's birthday party at Mom & Dad's. Isn't she beautiful?

3 years old now!

2nd Day of Spring!

What a beautiful day! The boys and I spent the afternoon at the zoo - we decided we'd call it an excrement day... because we saw plenty of that in the gorilla and bear areas! Alec & Austin loved it. I think that's what they wanted to see anyway.

We finished up with an incredibly expensive dinner at Ivar's (Aaron & I were shocked)! It was expensive but delicious.

We also have a new member in the family! Our nephew, Tyson Julius. He is just adorable, and so strong already - lifting his head up and looking around. However, the last couple of times I stopped by, he was busy sleeping.

Aaaah... blessed quiet. We're settling down for the night. What a great evening celebrating Kimi and Emi's birthday before their brother arrives! We needed the pressure to get the house cleaned up! It's a great feeling to go to bed with everything clean.

Austin got a haircut, which was hotly debated throughout the family. I personally think it's adorable. When I look at him - I think I have my little boy baby back. The great thing about hair is... it grows. Take a look for yourself.

Newby

I was inspired by my sister's fun blog to give this a try myself. Even though there's never enough time in the day, I thought I'd add one more thing to do...

Aaron is busy at school this quarter, taking Solar Design classes. Alec is doing well in school, and we just signed up for another year in karate. He'll be trying for his blue belt this year, so we're getting as much practice as possible in.

Austin is enjoying preschool. He has several friends that he really enjoys, and it's so fun to see his projects every day. He gets to do some really fun things!

I'm just working, working, working, and looking forward to my new nephew's arrival.
